چکیده

WSN (Wireless Sensor Networks), one of the most popular topics in wireless and mobile networking, is gaining much interest as an innovative technology in the near future. Especially in UW-ASN (UnderWater-Acoustic Sensor Network), there are many potential applications that can be provided through the networks such as ocean sampling network, environment monitoring, undersea exploration, disaster prevention, assisted navigation [1]. But the peculiarities of the physicals phenomena in ocean cause some challenges for the scientists when designing the UW-ASN [2]. These points require suitable architecture for underwater sensor network, especially in MAC protocol. We will focus on introducing the design and implementation of UW-ASN system in Section 2, and analyze the results of the experiments in a preliminary testbed in Section 3. The paper will conclude with the conclusion and future work in Section 4.

A Distributed CDMA Medium Access Control for Underwater Acoustic Sensor Networks

In this paper, UW-MAC, a distributed Medium Access Control (MAC) protocol tailored for UnderWater Acoustic Sensor Networks (UW-ASNs), is proposed. It is a transmitter-based Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) scheme that incorporates a novel closed-loop distributed algorithm to set the optimal transmit power and code length. UW-MAC aims at achieving three objectives, i.e., guarantee high netwo...

GT2 - Reduced Wastes Time Mechanism for Underwater Acoustic Sensor Network

Recently, development of original technologies and connection technologies of UW-ASN for data transmission in underwater environment has been accelerated. Since propagation delay is inevitable at acoustic communication in underwater environment, the transmission time tends to be increased as network radius increases. Besides, there are difficulties of Multiple Access Control (MAC) service, whic...

Effect of Underwater Ambient Noise on Quadraphase Phase-shift Keying Acoustic Sensor Network Links in Extremely Low Frequency Band

This study evaluates the impact of underwater ambient noise using seven real noise samples; Dolphin, Rain, Ferry, Sonar, Bubbles, Lightning, and Outboard Motor in three frequency ranges in extremely low frequency (ELF) band. The ELF band is the most significant bandwidth for underwater long-range communication. ELF band which is extended from 3 to 3000 Hz clearly, faces bandwidth limitation. Me...

SBMAC: Smart Blocking MAC Mechanism for Variable UW-ASN (Underwater Acoustic Sensor Network) Environment

In this paper, several MAC scheduling methods applicable to an underwater environment are proposed. Besides, a new marine communication system model was proposed to improve the reliability of the proposed SBMAC method. The scheme minimizes transmission of control frames except for data transmission and various transmission methods and ACK methods can be used together. Simulation models are set ...
